I want to give her the benefit of the doubt. I have not known her long. She is not one of my oldest friends.

Just wanted to note that from now on, this journal will be friends-only. Some people need to stay out of my business. Sorry, stalkers. Move along.

not getting it [Dec. 23rd, 2007|10:16 pm]

I just finished watching Muriel's Wedding. That was supposed to be a comedy? It depressed me.

But I thought this was kind of cool:

Toni Collette - Biography:
From age 6 she was brought up in suburban Sydney. At the age of 11 she showed her phenomenal acting skills when she faked appendicitis out of boredom and longing for attention; her act was so convincing that doctors had to remove her appendix, even though the test showed nothing wrong with it.

I'm a sucker for free stuff. I've entered to win a new iPod. I get two entries in the contest if I blog about it.

So I'm blogging about it.

something to laugh at [Dec. 1st, 2007|10:01 pm]

Here's a couple of things I've been laughing at this week. Strangely enough, they both are related to poop in some way (don't worry, the videos below have no gross visuals).

I've gotten over my case of the grouchies, although--contrary to what weather.com says--I swear the last few days have been the coldest I've ever experienced in Portland. Brrrrr! I feel like I'm in Missoula again!

Changing out of my pajamas.

Letting anyone break-a my stride or get me down.

Yeah, I'm grouchy.

my two cents, episode 2 [Nov. 23rd, 2007|02:16 pm]

Madonna has been getting flak for "canceling Christmas" at her house. Why she's getting crap for it, I have no idea. First, she's made it clear that she's not a Christian. So why is anyone surprised that she doesn't practice a Christian holiday? Millions of people don't celebrate Christmas. Granted, it's easy to forget that given there are a ba-zillion crazy people shopping today and the media loves to ram this holiday up our asses, but, still. It's not a freakish thing to pass on Christmas. I know I try to avoid it as much as possible.

But, really--Christmas nowadays is more about consumerism than Christ. And I really don't think Madonna's kids are lacking in anything materialistic. I think they'll be okay if they don't unwrap a gift on December 25th. They unwrapped the gift of being born rich when they were born. They are not children that have their needs unmet.

Honestly, I've always been impressed with Madonna's parenting decisions. If I had kids, I would hope to raise them the same way: No junk food, no television, lots of books and music, and a ton of creative outlets and activities. Mark my words--Lourdes and Rocco will NOT turn out like Paris Hilton and Brandon Davis...and their mother's discipline will have a lot to do with it. So fuck y'all.

workplace safety [Nov. 17th, 2007|06:26 pm]
Ontario's Workplace Safety & Insurance Board (WSIB)--which, I'm assuming, is comparable to our OSHA--has just released some safety videos that are, to say the least, pretty blunt. It reminds me of the post office's there-are-no-accidents attitude. It also reminds me of the don't-play-with-your-dad's-power-tools-unsupervised 16mm films I watched as a kid in school....

What kinds of superstitious cures have you heard of or tried? I'm trying to come up with a list of cures, quick fixes, rituals, miracle products, old wives tales, and "miracles" along the likes of Audrey Santo. Please share! I need inspiration for a short story I'm working on.

my two cents, episode 1 [Nov. 14th, 2007|02:49 pm]

[Current Music |OPB radio]

I've decided to start a blog series and title it "my two cents" because I'm one of those assholes that have a opinion on everything. I think I should blog more about my asshole-opinions instead of trying to force them on anyone who will listen, which is what I usually do. Isn't that what blogs are for? So, here's what I hope is my first installment in the series! Enjoy!

Today's topic: KATU did a report on high-tech gagets for hunters. "Is high tech hunting really fair?" they ask their viewers. (Their online poll shows that 74% of people who voted went with "no").

My two cents? If wild game is the primary source of food for you and your family, I don't think fairness is an issue. If you're hungry, then you do what you got to do, right? (If you are me, that means going through a drive-thru wearing no bra, flannel pajama bottoms, and flip-flops in November). However, if you hunt as a "sport", then these high tech tools are just as "fair" as the cheat-book I used for Super Mario Bros. 3 in high school for my Nintendo*. It works, but you're kinda a punk for being lazy and unskillful. Don't ya think? Is winning really everything, kids? Half the fun of hell is getting there!

Anyway, that's my warm-up post to the new Op-Ed series of Neva Feva. I think my next installment in this series will be focusing on what irks me about the BBC radio program "World Have Your Say"...

Now it's your turn: Share your two cents! Let me know if you have any suggestions for future topics!

*Yeah, that's an old reference. I haven't been sucked into a video game since 1991, when I spent my entire Spring Break of my senior year in high school completing The Legend of Zelda. After the initial satisfaction wore off, I realized how big of a loser I was and swore off of video games since.

Just got back from Monday Movies at The Tonic Lounge. Much better venue that the old one! As always, good times were had by all. It was good to see Cuervolinda and her man.

Before the movies, Jeff talked me into going to Everyday Music down the street. Here are my used finds:
Taxi Driver DVD, $12
I Am Trying To Break Your Heart (Wilco) DVD, $2.50
Jesus' Son VHS, $2
My Own Private Idaho VHS, $2.

Sweet!

(And yes, everyone and everything in my world has a MySpace profile.)

Monday Movie Night! [Sep. 17th, 2007|09:33 am]
[Tags|, , ]

Monday, September 17, 2007 Monday Movies begin again at our new location The Tonic Lounge. We've got an indoor venue, and plenty of new 16mm films to show you.

Monday the 17th is Rock n' Roll Night. We are showing The Girl Can't Help It (1956, black & white, 99 minutes) the quintessential rock & roll movie, starring Jayne Mansfield. Performances by Little Richard, Fats Domino, Gene Vincent, Julie London, Fats Domino, Eddie Cochran, and The Platters. We wanted to take advantage of the great sound system we now have access to, and this film does just that!

Upcoming schedule:

September 24, Deadly Driving Night

Last Date (1950 B&W, 15 min.) Reckless teen driving, starring a young and unknown Dick York, before he was gay or Darin Stevens.

None For The Road (1957 B&W, 15 min.) Her lucky charm bracelet was no match for a liquored up escort home.

Red Light Return (1965 Eastman color, 15 min.) Crash test dummies and crumpled steel show you just how much General Motors cares.

October 1, Military Disasters

Disaster Control Nuclear Fallout (US Air Force, 1956, B&W, 30 min.) Hey! I can see the bones in my hand right through the skin!

Battle of Russia (US Army, 1943, B&W, 30 min.) Academy Award winner for best documentary by Frank Capra. No Santa, no Jimmy Stewart, just hardcore war and a smattering of Nazis to boot!

Military Blooper Reel (US Army, 10 min.) The fun never ends when the military makes training films. Spliced together outtakes and mistakes that remind us war is funny!

October 8, Ghetto Life

Marked For Failure (NET, 1964, B&W, 60 min.) Before PBS, there was National Educational Television. After a series of films tearing into the government and the powerful white majority such as this one, NET was shut down so that it could no longer embarrass Whitey with his own money.

Monday Movies at The Tonic Lounge

3100 NE Sandy Blvd.,

Portland, OR 97212

503.238.0543

Mere blocks from I-84 33rd Ave. Exit, (Exit 1). Right on the Sandy 12 Tri-Met line.

Big free parking lot. Cool free movies. Full bar. Full menu until 10pm. Juke box full of Portland punk rock. Shit, you can't go wrong.

If you'd like to be emailed a calendar of our upcoming schedule once it is available, please send your request to mondaymovies at aol dot com. (We hate spam too. We don't sell or abuse your information, just send you crap like this.

For a complete calendar of upcoming movies, go to http://www.myspace.com/mondaymovie.
